I was gone for a bit...

23:12 Wednesday, August 19th, 2026

Hey, um, so, it's been a minute. When I said I would make a blog post daily, trust me when I say I meant it. In the back of my head every day I was regretting not having the motivation to go and make a post. Not like I had anything better to do most of the time. But, uh, actually this week I've been pretty busy with band camp! And it's been a blast, yet exhuasting.

This year is my last year of band camp at my high school, so I am half sad and half relieved. I play the sousaphone, and honestly, it is probably the best instrument someone could ever march with. It's big, it's shiny, it's loud, and it's groovy. We get so many perks too and many, many pity points. I am the section leader for all the sousas and baritones, which adds up to six members (including me). This is much bigger than what we had my freshman year. Currently, we divide the trombones up into their own section and the low brass (sousas + baritones) in another. But my freshman year we were all combined, PLUS with the tenor saxophones, and had a grand total of ten members. That was the remnants of COVID-19 leaving their traces everywhere.

I was also section leader last year, and much more timid and softspoken. This year, I've donned much more authority. It is a relief to find that I no longer have any zamns to give and will direct people in a stern fashion. But it is exhausting to manage people. And I've found that my legs hurt a LOT at the end of the day. So I'm rather excited for this week to end. I know I will probably miss band camp horribly when I graduate, though.

I haven't had a lot of time for other things lately, but I'm ashamed of myself for treating band camp as an excuse to not to crap at all. I missed my bass lesson because I was zonking out and have been feeling really bad about that since... such a tiny thing to be upset about but I really do feel bad.

Last weekend I went hanging out with my best friend and we went to a garage sale where I could buy ten CDs for $1! This is good for me because my car has a CD player and I needed to get some new music circulating. Currently, I have this groovy samba/bossa nova CD from the mid-late-1900s jammin' in there. Sergio Mendes is the artist I think. My sister and I are big fans of it. Anyways, it would be in my best interest if I went to bed now. Nighty night.

Rotting during the Summer

23:33 Wednesday, August 12th, 2026

All this week I've just been feeling like I'm rotting in my room. Most of the summer, every week I've had something productive and incredibly time-consuming to do. For instance, I went on a canoe trip one week, to Peru for two, a jazz camp on one, etc. But this week I've got nothing and it's my mom's goal to get me cooking on the Common App for my college essays. My problem is that I've been lying to her and saying I've been doing it daily for two hours when I have not. (I guess it is no different from last summer when I told her I was studying for the SAT and I wasn't). I really need to quit this lying business, though. It makes me feel horrible and evil.

I've also been meaning to study the prophets of the Bible. Right now, I'm reading Hosea, but I haven't read ANYTHING from the Bible since last week. AFter attending a Christian camp for a week, I set my mind on praying diligently (I set alarms to remind me to pray, and have started a prayer journal) and meditating in the morning to listen to God's voice and take notes on some of the hard sayings of the Bible. But I've been so lethargic and can't even muster enough strength to cry despite how upset I am sometimes. I feel so disconnected from both God and my integrity. I've been lying to Mom and have been ignoring my faith.

Instead of doing the needful, a.k.a. all of the above plus practicing my electric bass and tuba, I've been sitting at my desk with this darn computer. Watching YouTube, playing ROBLOX, and coding on Neocities. At least the Neocities part is impressive, and when I hop on ROBLOX Studio to model games... that's also kinda neat. But it's not the needful. The needful is college, faith, and instruments.

Man, I think I've been yearning to get this out. I actually love to journal, but my lethargy has genuinely prohibited me from even grabbing it. So this blog outlet is doing the trick. Tomorrow, I will try my best to check all the boxes on the needful. Maybe I can make up for all the Common App I've lied about. Please, wish me luck on this. Talk to you tomorrow!
